Scotland and The Wider World

In today’s globalised world, growing numbers of companies are conducting business internationally; higher educational institutions are vying to attract overseas studies; international travel is increasing due to the affordability of air travel; communication across countries and continents is becoming easier due to advances in technology; and governments are placing an ever increasing greater emphasis on forging international links. All of this creates a demand for international research

Being part of a global company with offices in 64 countries, Ipsos MORI Scotland is particularly well placed to respond to this demand.

In recent years, much of the international research we have undertaken has been commissioned by the Scottish Government. We have undertaken research to feed into the China Strategy, research to support Scotland’s stronger engagement with Germany and an Evaluation of the Relocation Advisory Service – a service which aims to help fresh talent to migrate to Scotland by providing advice on various aspects of relocation. In conducting this research, we worked with colleagues in Ipsos offices in China, Germany, India and Poland.

Beyond this work, we have recently undertaken a number of studies which have involved comparing the views of key audiences in different counties. Examples include: an employee survey for a major oil & gas company which was conducted in Scotland, Norway and Azerbaijan; and a comparative study in the UK and Sweden on behalf of Help the Aged which looked at older people’s attitudes and behaviours with regard to keeping warm in winter.

Our researchers are supported in our international studies by the facilities of our global Ipsos resources including: our custom built, multilingual telephone centre; our in-house translation services; and our specialist statistical sampling team.

Ipsos MORI’s international research capabilities have been further enhanced by the launch of the Ipsos International Social Research Institute in May 2010. The Institute focuses on undertaking research for governments across the globe as well as conducting multinational studies for international organisations.
